Psychotherapist
„So much is asked of parents and so little is given,” said Virginia Satir, one of the founders of family therapy. Nearly all families deal with some kind of dysfunction at one time or another. Family therapy offers a way to develop and maintain a healthy, functional family. Childbirth as well as the period preceding it and following it can be beautiful but is definitely challenging. You may run into obstacles that you never even knew existed (ex. relational problems with your partner or newly born child, difficulties adjusting to new roles, stress, anxiety, grief).
Family therapy is a type of brief solution-focused psychotherapy and/or counselling that can help family members and couples improve communication among one another and resolve conflicts. It may involve working with the family as a whole, the individual, couples, or just mother/caregiver and baby.
